RAIL NEWS: All aboard the Christmas trains! LRT-2, MRT-3 begin yuletide celebrations

Christmas is in the air as the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) and Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) have unveiled their holiday-themed trains, transforming the bustling metro commute into a merry journey for commuters.

Transport Assistant Secretary for Railways Jorjette B. Aquino on Monday, November 6, led the rollout of the “Christmas Trains,” saying that the train sets aim to spread joy and warmth among commuters during the holiday season.

Donned in Christmas colors, Asec. Aquino, together with Santa Claus, also engaged with commuters and spread holiday cheer by giving away candies and chocolates to commuters at the MRT-3 Ayala Station and LRT-2 Cubao Station.

“Sa ating mga Christmas trains, layon namin makapagbigay nang kahit konting saya sa kanilang araw, lalo na sa mga pagod na komyuter habang sila’y pauwi galing sa kanilang trabaho,” Asec. Aquino said.

Adding a harmonious touch to the unveiling of the holiday-themed trains, Asec. Aquino also joined the choirs at the Cubao stations of the MRT-3 and LRT-2.

“Meron din tayong choir, ito ay mga mahuhusay na empleyado ng MRT-3 at LRT-2 na every other day, maglilipat lipat ng istasyon, para magbigay saya sa ating mga pasahero,” the railways official said.

Asec. Aquino was joined by Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) Administrator Hernando Cabrera and several LRTA officials.

"Sa pamamagitan ng programang ParaTren ang Pasko, maipapadama namin ang diwa ng pagmamahal at kasiyahan ng Pasko. 'Yung Christmas vibes na biyahe ang aginaldo namin sa bawat pasahero," Administrator Cabrera said.

Their presence, Asec. Aquino said, not only highlighted the celebratory atmosphere but also underscored the Railways Sector’s commitment to making the metro commute a safe but cheery experience during the Christmas season.

For years now, rapid growth of commuters and vehicles population have plagued Metro Manila, the center of Philippine socio-economic and political activity.
