MRT-3 deploys four-car trains during peak hours

In response to the anticipated influx of passengers after Holy Week, the Metro Rail Transit Line-3 (MRT-3) deployed four-car trains during peak hours on Monday, April 21.

Following the directives of the President to improve the daily plight of commuters, this move is part of MRT’s effort to ensure safe and comfortable travel while giving back time to commuters.

Three four-car trains were deployed during morning and afternoon peak hours, while 16 trains will retain the current three-car configuration.

Each train car can carry up to 394 passengers, which means each four-car train can accommodate around 1,576 passengers.

With three four-car trains complementing the 16 three-car trains, passenger capacity will be expanded into an equivalent of 20 trains during peak hours--further enhancing MRT-3's capacity.

Earlier, MRT-3 also extended its weekday operating hours indefinitely, an initiative welcomed by many commuters, particularly those who work late hours.

The deployment of four-car trains during peak hours also comes after the successful completion of Holy Week maintenance, during which all of the line's subsystems underwent annual preventive maintenance to ensure MRT-3's safe and orderly operation.

Better Transportation for the Greater Tomorrow

For years now, rapid growth of commuters and vehicles population have plagued Metro Manila, the center of Philippine socio-economic and political activity.
